We're all different. We all go through different experiences, we have different thoughts, likes, and dislikes. Of course, there are overlapping things that we all share, but why do we often times fall into the spectrum of telling others how to live their lives or being told how to live ours? Shouldn't we be the ones to choose?
It's understandable as to why we live our lives similarly and follow the same system; it's what we know. It's sort of the way in which society and our civilization has been built. Yet in recent years, the amount of people choosing to stray from the "norm" and live their own lives has lessened. At the same time, it is ever increasing.
At the end of the day, your life is your own. Therefore, it is entirely up to YOU as to how you should live it. Here are some tips to assure to be truest to yourself and live your life:
Think What You Want To Think
We all have our own preferences, beliefs, et cetera. Sometimes, however, when there are conflicting ideas and ideals between individuals, there's cause for commotion. Therefore, don't think how others might want you to think, but simply listen to your own mind and think what you want to think, believe in what you want to believe in, and live how you want to live.
Recognize Your Identity
It's important to recognize your likes, dislikes, goals and mindset in order to figure out who you are and who you would like to be. Assessing your values is also a good way to see what's important to you and think about how you want to go about things. Having your own identity and personality is crucial. So many of us get lost in the crowd and wish you fit in, but as the cliche says, why fit in when you're born to stand out?
Let Go Of The Expectations Of Others
Having to choose between what you want to do and what others want you to do can be a difficult situation. However, it is important to, at the end of the day, do what makes you most happy and remember to put yourself first. Live your life as you wish, but if you find yourself choosing others' expectations of you rather than doing what you want to do, think about what will truly matter at the end of the day.
Set Goals
Setting goals is a great way to assure yourself you are on the right track to reaching your dreams and living the life you want. If you want to achieve something, you must climb the ladder towards it; and with that comes setting goals and milestones you wish to achieve in order to reach your ultimate goal. Remember that everything takes time and everything all happens for a reason. Everything will be okay, no matter what.
Stop Comparing
In the age of social media, it is easy to belittle yourself, especially when you're constantly seeing others post the best moments of their lives on platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. However, this is not healthy. Comparing yourself in a good or bad way to others stops you from living your life because you're focused on how someone else has chosen to live their life. Everyone is follow their own path, even those who appear to be following someone's path. Stick to creating and becoming your best self and help others do the same. But remember everyone is different and therefore everyone's life should be how they want it to be and not how you think their life should be.
Spend Time With People That Lift You Up
Energy and vibrations travel between individuals. Therefore, if you're surrounding yourself with negative people, you are bound to feel negative too. The same goes for surrounding yourself with positive people and good energy. You are more likely to be happier and feeling better, even more creative or more healthy. The people you surround yourself with is important. Remove toxic people from your life. I know it can be difficult, especially when those who are toxic are close to you, family, or people who just have always seemed to be there. But, if those individuals are not making any positive impact on your life, do you really want them bringing you down with them?
Take Chances
Do not be afraid of change and new experiences. Change is inevitable and, therefore, should be accepted. Taking chances brings on new opportunities and with new opportunities comes an opening for happiness and fulfillment. If you don't take chances, you might never know what you missed out on.
Learn From Your Mistakes
Mistakes are a part of life, but they help us to learn. It is crucial to learn from our mistakes so that we do not make them again and we can move forward. It's inevitable to make mistakes in life, but it's how you handle them and how you go about them that makes all the differences. It's okay if you do not learn your lesson the first time, you're human and sometimes something needs to happen a few times in order for us to open our eyes and see what's really going on. But do try and learn from them. It'll make you stronger.
